"We desperately need volunteers outside on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings," says Pantry director Tom Bullaro.
According to Bullaro, our snowbirds have gone back North, leaving us with only a skeleton crew of senior volunteers outside to unload our trucks on Tuesday and Friday mornings and put food into our clients' cars on Saturday mornings. This is a huge effort especially when it can be shared with so few people for hours on end. Younger volunteers are especially welcome.
"The average age of our outside volunteers is 75," Bullaro says. "They just can't do the heavy lifting they once did for hours on end. Food boxes are heavy, weighing some 25 pounds or much more. When so few are working on any given day, too, the overall effect becomes cumulative. It's more than they can manage.
"If you can lend a hand, please just come on Tuesday and Friday about 8:30 a.m. and/or on Saturday between 6:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.
"And thanks so much."
