Pope Francis inspires compassion towards the poor

Pope Francis, who has lived among the poorest of the poor for much of his life, urges us to remember our brother and sister in need.

Here in Hillsborough County, we have ample opportunities to give hope and help to those less fortunate than ourselves.

One of many such opportunities is to assist Our Lady of Guadalupe Food Pantry (Our Lady's Pantry) in its mission.

The mission of the Pantry is to provide some relief for those who worry how to feed their families.

You can help in many ways:

  • Donate your time.  We work on Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday mornings.  Ask for Anita if you come.
  • Donate nutritious non-perishable foods.  We are especially in need of canned meats, poultry, and fish.
  • Donate your treasure.  Our Lady's Pantry purchases food from Feeding Tampa Bay for $.18 a pound.  Thus, even a small $5 donation provides about 25 pounds of food for families.

Donations can be brought to the Pantry any Tuesday, Friday, or Saturday morning.  Or mail your monetary gift to Our Lady's Pantry; Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Migrant Mission; 16650 U.S. Highway 301 South; Wimauma, Fl. 33598.  Thanks so much for whatever you can do to help the poor.

Pope Francis asks that we remember our neighbors, who are trapped in the cycle of poverty and offer them hope for a better tomorrow.

“. . .The measure of greatness of a society is found in the way it treats those most in need, those who have nothing apart from their poverty,” he says.
