A dozen or more volunteers gather at the Pantry every Friday morning to package family-size bags of bread and produce for folks coming on Saturday morning for food.
Many Hands Make the Work Possible
It takes many hands to accomplish all that needs to be done at Our Lady’s Pantry. Almost every morning of the week, our drivers leave Wimauma and head out in our trucks to Feeding America — Tampa Bay, our regional food bank — as well as to three Publix Supermarkets and other local markets. There, they collect food for our families and bring it back to the Pantry in Wimauma.
When our trucks return, a team of dedicated volunteers is ready to unload. Perishable foods are carefully stored in our cooler or freezer, while non-perishable items are sorted, organized, and placed on the shelves in preparation for Saturday morning distribution.
After unloading the first run, our drivers head out again — and sometimes again — to pick up additional donations from local food markets. It is a continuous effort, made possible by the generosity of our donors and the commitment of our volunteers.
Our care for and love of those in need illuminates everything we do at the Pantry. It fuels countless hours of hard work as we gather, sort, store, and prepare food to bring a measure of relief and hope to our neighbors on Saturday mornings.
